My patient needs a chest drain – now what?

This session will provide attendees with an overview of the management of chest drains in the emergency care setting. It is aimed at emergency health care clinicians who have not had a great deal of exposure or recent experience with chest drains, or need a refresher.

It will cover indications/contraindications for a chest drain (with real life case scenarios), chest tube/intercostal catheter insertion technique, and potential complications.
This workshop is supported by Getinge, hence the Atrium drains (used commonly within SA Health) will be available for hands-on practice with set up. Troubleshooting and post insertion management information will be provided.

Marina D’Cruz is the Territory Manager at Getinge, covering South Australia and Northern Territory. She has 11 years experience in cardiothoracic intensive care nursing at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Her passion is sharing clinical expertise, and providing education and continued support to clinicians across various areas.
