Shift workers are at risk for disruption of their body clocks. In a way, many shift workers are constantly “jet lagged”. In this session, a brief review of circadian rhythms will be discussed. More importantly, practical approaches to assist shift workers in their alertness at night and sleep in the morning will be reviewed.
About the Speaker
Tony Fernando is an academic psychiatrist and sleep specialist. He’s a consultant psychiatrist with Auckland DHB and runs a private practice in Insomnia Medicine in Practice 92 in Mt Eden. He is also a Senior Lecturer in Psychological Medicine at University of Auckland, where he runs regular workshops on the Science of Happiness. In that role he also teaches medical students and psychiatrists practical meditation techniques. He helped develop the CALM website. He is currently doing his PhD on compassion in clinical practice.
