Topic: Impact of Cumulative Trauma Experience in Female First Responders

Helen Frazer is currently researching the impact of cumulative trauma experience on female first responders.  This has been made possible through the inaugural Phoebe Chapple Memorial PhD Research Scholarship, funded by the Australian Medical Women’s Memorial Research Fund, Snowdrops Hope for Post-Traumatic Stress Committee.

Helen works at the Department of Health and is a Registered Nurse and Midwife with an extensive background in emergency nursing.  This includes aeromedical retrievals and clinical rural and remote work area work.  Helen also volunteers in a first aid capacity with St John in South Australia.  Helen has a Master Degree in Advanced Nursing Practice, Bachelor of Nursing Science, Bachelor of Law and a Graduate Dip in Legal Practice.

Helen has a passion for emergency nursing and the effect of cumulative trauma experience on first responder staff.  The limited research available regarding the cumulative trauma exposure impact on female first responders has inspired Helen to progress her PhD in this area.  Helen can be contacted via email:
