Clinicians, researchers, educators and policy makers are invited to submit abstracts for possible inclusion in the 2018 Emergency SA conference. Authors are encouraged to align presentations with the conference theme and preference will be given to submissions that are relevant across the three professions – emergency nursing, emergency medicine and paramedicine.

Current sub themes include (but are not limited to):

  • How things are done elsewhere
  • Wellbeing and resilience
  • Legal considerations
  • Using technology
  • Systems issues
  • Teamwork
  • Paediatric
  • End of life
  • Obstetric
  • Bariatric

Submissions are limited to a 300 word plain text word document. The abstracts will be assessed by the conference scientific committee for quality and applicability to the above themes. Submissions are due by 31st January 2018.

All abstracts are to be submitted to the Scientific Chair as a word document.  The receipt of submissions will be confirmed by an acknowledgment email. All applicants, successful or otherwise, will be notified by 14th March 2018.

Presentation Formats

We invite you to submit abstracts for the following formats. While you will be asked to indicate your preferred presentation format, the program committee may request an alternative format be considered. The committee will allocate abstracts and papers to the program taking into account the preference of authors and the balance of the program.

Oral Presentations

Oral presentations will be allocated 20 minutes presentation plus 3 minutes allocated to audience questions and 2 minutes allocated to room change. Additionally, a 5 minute discussion will be held at the end of the stream so speakers are encouraged to stay in their room after their presentation.

Posters

Posters should be A0 size (A0 size is 841mm x 1189mm) in portrait orientation. They will be displayed for the duration of the conference in the trade and catering area.  Presenters must be present to answer any questions during the poster session.

The Conrad Williams Prize

The ‘Conrad Williams Prize’ is awarded in honour of the late Dr Conrad Williams, a talented and much loved Emergency Physician who sadly passed away too young. We hope through this prize, his passion for the education of others will live on.Two $750 prizes will be awarded on behalf of the three colleges and in Conrad’s honour to the author/s of the best poster and the best free paper. This award will be judged by a representative from each of the three colleges (ACEM, CENA and PA) on relevance to the themes of the conference and emergency healthcare, appearance, content and presentation. The prize must be used for educational or research purposes such as; conference attendance, attendance to a relevant professional course, research grant with ethics approval or as deemed appropriate by the EMSA committee. The prize money will only be given to the winner on presentation to the Scientific Convenor of evidence of use of winnings.
